Today two insurance companies agreed to settle an automobile accident case for an injured client. The fact that there were two insurance companies involved in the settlement made it difficult to settle. One company insured the responsible driver for $25,000. The client also had what is known as underinsured motorist coverage for another $25,000. At first both insurance companies refused to pay thier policy limits.

Each had a different excuse for not paying. Our firm felt that the $50,000 total policy limits was a fair settlement and we refused to accept anything less. After we brought the litigation and convinced the companies that we would go to trial if they wouldn't settle, they both grudgingly paid the full $25,000 each in coverage.

This left the question of unpaid medical bills. One of our specialty areas is negotiating medical liens. Often in serious accidents where insurance coverage is limited the medical bills can sometimes be more than the funds available for settlement. In these cases successful negotiation with the medical lien holders is all important. While many personal injury law firms don't offer this service to clients we take great pride in being a full service law firm, especially when it comes to auto accident cases. In this particular case we negotiated with three or four seperate lienholders and convinced them to take much less than the full amount of their liens. This meant all the clients medical bills were paid and she also received compensation for her pain and suffering.
