A New Hampshire man is being charged with leaving the scene of a car accident, where a teenage girl was seriously hurt and an Elmhurst man was killed.

The driver faces up to four years in prison if convicted. According to the charges, the two-vehicle accident happened at midnight on February 7th on the westbound Grand Central Parkway. Melendez, of Elmhurst and a 16-year-old girl passenger were checking the damage to Melendez's Honda after losing control of the car, hitting a guardrail.

The driver allegedly sideswiped Melendez's car, pushing it into Melendez and the passenger. The driver fled the scene without checking on the two victims. There was a third passenger in the car but they were uninjured.

Savini returned to the scene two hours later and surrendered to police, the DA's office said. Savini was charged with leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it, and was due in court Feb. 21, the DA's office said. Upon investigation, police discovered that Savini does have a valid New Hampshire driver's license, that he was not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and that he was not speeding, DA Brown said.
