40th Anniversary of Cog Railway Train Crash

Several weeks ago, marked the 40th anniversary of the Mount Washington Cog Railway train derailment which killed 8 people and injured 70 others. Because of a systems failure, a train engine rolled off a trestle causing a passenger car to speed down the mountain until it jumped the tracks and flew into a rock.

Ultimately, the Cog Railway settled a number of damage claims that were brought against it and corrected the failure that led to the crash and so many deaths. It is important that we remember these types of catastrophes so they can be avoided in the future. For more on this incident, see the following:
