Our firm regularly tracks news of consumer product safety concerns to pass information on that will be a benefit to public safety in our community. A recent development in consumer saftey involves botulism in canned meat.

Botulism is a rare but serious paralytic illness caused by a nerve toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. There are three main kinds of botulism. Foodborne botulism is caused by eating foods that contain the botulism toxin.

The latest botulism threat comes from canned meat produced by Castleberry Foods.

Castleberry's Food Company of Augusta Georgia announced that it is voluntarily recalling ten products nationwide for possible botulism contamination, and Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. is urging Connecticut consumers to immediately discard any of these items they may have. All of the products are manufactured by the Castleberry Food Company in Augusta, Georgia and the company has indicated that these products were distributed in Connecticut.

Since the product has been disributed in New England its a good idea not eat any of this type of food until the problem is resolved.

While personal injury law is what we do, we are extremely interested in helping the public avoid situations that may lead to serious injuries, illness or even death before the event can occur. Growing up my mother always told me "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Because of our reputation we have plenty of clients who were unfortunate enough to have been seriously injured by the fault of others. We don't need clients whose injuries can be prevented.
